This reads the Environment Agency’s real-time flood feed at the moment you search, and shows the warnings and alerts in force near the postcode — the severity, the river or stretch of coast, the named flood area, and when the warning was raised. Nothing is stored between searches, and the time of the check is shown with every result.
It answers what is happening now. Whether a particular house sits in a flood zone is a different question with a different answer, and the Environment Agency publishes that separately at check-long-term-flood-risk.service.gov.uk. We do not hold long-term risk data for any property, so a quiet day here says nothing about whether an address has flooded before or could flood again.
Every severe flood warning, flood warning and flood alert in force near the postcode, with the Environment Agency’s own wording, plus warnings lifted recently so a flood that has just passed is not hidden.

The long-term flood risk of a specific property, whether your street is inside a warning area, or how deep water might get. It also does not show river and sea levels; the Environment Agency publishes those on its own service, linked above.
Enter a postcode and the page asks the Environment Agency there and then. Anything in force within the radius you pick is listed with its severity, its flood area and the time the warning was raised. An empty list means no warning was in force near that point when you searched, nothing more.
No. Live warnings and long-term flood risk are two separate Environment Agency products, and we only read the live one. For a property, use the Environment Agency’s own long-term flood risk service at check-long-term-flood-risk.service.gov.uk, and ask the seller and your solicitor about past flooding.
A flood alert means flooding is possible and you should be prepared. A flood warning means flooding is expected and you should act now. A severe flood warning means there is a danger to life. The Environment Agency sets all three, and the page shows its wording rather than ours.
The Environment Agency covers England only. Natural Resources Wales, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and DfI Rivers publish warnings for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and the page links to each rather than showing you an empty result that looks like an all-clear.

A result is held for at most fifteen minutes so that a busy hour does not hammer the Environment Agency, and the time of the check is printed next to the answer so you can see how fresh it is.
