Know before you move — schools, safety, prices, transport and more, from official UK data.
Costs, crime, schools, health, transport, shops, broadband and mobile signal — over 80 measures for each area, from the same official sources, with the distance between them and a mark on every measure where one is genuinely ahead. Nothing declares a winner overall; the weighting is yours.

When you compare towns in the UK — or two neighbourhoods in the same city — the fairest comparison uses the same source, the same radius and the same period for both. That is what this tool does: each postcode gets the same report, built from the same national datasets, so a difference on the page is a difference in the data and not in how it was collected.
Some numbers need care. To compare crime rates between areas, remember that recorded crime is a count, and busy places record more because more people pass through. To compare house prices between areas, look at the median by property type rather than one average, because a street of flats and a street of detached houses are different markets.
Rent, sold prices by type, council tax, crime by category, schools, GPs, dentists, rail and bus, broadband, 4G and 5G, and the MP.
We do not add the figures into a score. One area is often quieter and the other better connected, and only you know which matters more.
The link keeps both postcodes, so you can send the same comparison to a partner or save it for later.
Sign in, type both postcodes and press Compare. You get every measure held for both, side by side, with a bar showing the size of each figure.
Yes — any two postcodes in England, Wales or Scotland. Where a dataset only covers one nation, that row shows as not held for the other postcode rather than as zero.
Each postcode counts as one search, so a comparison uses two of your weekly searches.
The tool deliberately does not say. It shows where the two areas differ and by how much, and leaves the weighing to you.
Both areas use police.uk recorded crime within about a mile over the same months. It is a like-for-like count, but not a rate per resident, so treat a busy town centre with care.
