Strictly necessary
These make the site work. They cannot be switched off, and under the rules they do not need your consent — but you should still know they are there. Note that the sign-in items are local storage rather than cookies, so they are never sent to our server with each request.
| Name | Type | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
mc_token | Local storage | Keeps you signed in. Without it you would have to type your password again on every page. | Until you sign out, or clear your browser data. |
mc_user | Local storage | Your name and plan, so the header can greet you and show the right dashboard link without asking the server again. | Until you sign out, or clear your browser data. |
mc_consent | Local storage | Remembers whether you accepted or refused analytics, so you are not asked on every page. | Until you clear your browser data. Change it any time with "Cookie settings" in the footer. |
mc_chunk_reload | Session storage | A one-off marker set if a page script fails to download, so the site can refresh itself once instead of looping. | Cleared the moment you close the tab. |
Analytics — your choice
Nothing below is set unless you press Accept analytics. Refuse, and it is never loaded; if you accepted earlier and change your mind, choosing Reject analytics deletes what is already there. Either way the whole site works exactly the same.
| Name | Type | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Cookie (Google Analytics) | Counts visits and shows us which tools get used, so we know what to build next. It does not tell us who you are. | Up to two years. Deleted straight away if you choose "Reject analytics". |
Change your mind whenever you like with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
Things that are not storage, but you should know about
Two parts of the site load files from somebody else, and anyone serving you a file can see your IP address. Neither stores anything on your device.
- Fonts are served by Google Fonts. No cookie is set, but Google sees the request.
- Map tiles are served by our map provider, who sees the request for each tile as you pan and zoom. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors.
What we do with the data you give us deliberately — your email, your saved areas — is a separate question, answered in the privacy policy.
